Tom Lees was criticised by supporters for his poor performance in Sheffield Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Barnsley, but he wasn’t the only defender called out on social media.
Julian Borner didn’t have the best afternoon at Oakwell and was hammered online. The 29-year-old frequently relinquished possession and struggled to quell Barnsley’s attacking threat over the 90 minutes.
Well, that was abysmal from @swfc Dawson, Borner and Lees useless. What are we doing in training? We need to get a grip in midfield, oh for a couple of players who can pass the ball. #shocking

Dawson howler gifted the Dingles and equaliser, very shaky at the back today, Borner having an off day. We have nothing in midfield, can't keep the ball. Needs a better second half @swfc

Against the Tykes, Borner made 56 touches, won two aerial duels, completed 65.7% of his 35 passes, made two tackles, drew two fouls, made four interceptions, blocked one shot, made four clearances and gave away one foul.
The German defender has been a regular at the back under Garry Monk, making 27 appearances in all competitions this season and scoring one goal.
With Dominic Iorfa given the nod at right-back against Barnsley and David Bates being frozen out of the first-team, Wednesday don’t have another centre-back available.
Monk’s side have stopped the run of defeats with consecutive draws in the Championship, but the Owls have picked up only five points from their last eight games. They next face Luton Town on February 12.
