Wednesday fans got their first viewing of Callum McManaman up close and personal in today`s press conference, and he had some harsh words for his parent club West Brom, as well as saying out right that Wednesday were the “biggest club” he has played for.

When asked what his objective for his loan period was he said it was to “get his career back on track,” and that he was not planning on going back to West Brom after a “frustrating” period for the winger under Tony Pulis.

“It was very frustrating. I never had a run of games at West Brom, I never got given the chance to.

“That`s football, it`s a game of opinions. I just want to go out and play.”

“Obviously West Brom have a way of playing under Tony Pulis and that`s not going to change.”

He made clear how delighted he was to join Wednesday, and that it was the impression he got from Carvalhal that made him desperate to join Wednesday over any other club, and he may have joined in the summer if everything had gone to plan.

He said that it was Carvalhal`s plans for him, to get him “with the ball at his feet, higher up the pitch,” so he can do what he does best and exploit one on one situations. Carvalhal`s faith in him, and recognition of his main attributes made him desperate to play for the Portuguese.
Finally he pointed to the spirit in the camp as a key reason as to why he has settled in so quickly. He pointed to a number of players he knows through the game such as Barry Bannan and Dave Jones, and said it was nice that there weren`t any cliques in the dressing room, and the togetherness was there to see.

He seemed keen to fight for the cause, and when asked what his future plans were, he made clear he was not intending to go back to West Brom, and said, “Who knows, hopefully I do well, and maybe stay here.”
His instant desire to stay at Wednesday should put him in the good books of owls fans, and if he can add a bit of firepower to a Wednesday attack slightly shy of goals this season, he will soon become a favourite among the terraces.

If he wants to stay do the Owls buy McManaman in the summer?
