Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay has confirmed that two key players for the first team squad are back in contention for the game against Middlesbrough later this evening.

Both Barry Bannan and Steven Fletcher were withdrawn during our victory over Bristol City ahead of the October international break and there were concerns that both would miss out on this weeks action with respective groin and back problems but in his press conference on Thursday, Luhukay confirmed they were back in his thoughts.

“Steven Fletcher has trained the last week normal, with no negative reaction after the game so we are happy with that. There is also no problem with Barry Bannan, who has trained in all the training sessions and of course that is a big positive for us.”

A very simple set of sentences but one that will be hugely welcomed within the fanbase, especially in light of Marco Matias and Fernando Forestieri remaining a few weeks of a return for us as well.

Ash Baker, Michael Hector, Josh Onomah and Atdhe Nuhiu have all returned fine from international duty as well and Sam Winnall is expected to step up his own return with another run out for the Under 23s this weekend where the plan is for him to get around or over the hour mark this time to push him that little bit further.

Joost van Aken is also back in training and will likely take in an Under 23 game as he continues his return to contention.
