The on-the-pitch action might be starting again this weekend but the Owls boardroom is going to be a busy place over the next few weeks.

American investment company Club 9 Sports and a a new consortium led by two Sheffield businessmen are set to go head-to-head to try and buy the Owls.

As ever, the off-the-field talk has over-shadowed the on-the-pitch action this summer at Hillsborough and the talk only seems to be hotting up with the new season all set to go.

Wednesdayite Dennis Hobson, who is supporting the Club 9 Sports bid, insists a deal could be struck within the next 48 hours – with the consortium agreeing to guarantee £5m to the club up front – something which Wednesday have demanded from the off.

But the Owls are also in talks with two Sheffield businessmen, who are both understood to be die-hard Wednesday fans fronting a middle-eastern investment group.

The group is keen to remain anonymous until any deal is done and talks are only at early stages, with a deal more likely to take months rather than weeks.

The club has confirmed that, although they’re in discussions about a possible takeover, that no offer has yet met the criteria laid out.
