Wednesday enjoyed their second Steel City Derby victory of the season on Wednesday night as the Owls reserve team comfortably saw off their Blades counterparts at Worksop Town.

Burton O’Brien, Ronnie Wallwork and Luke Boden bagged the goals for Wednesday as they swept aside a young Blades team, while there was also a promising return from injury for Steve Watson and Etienne Esajas on a promising day for the Owls.

Esajas and Watson both came through the clash unscathed, news that will be good for Owls boss Brian Laws as he looks to have the maximum number of players available for the relegation run-in.

Peter Gilbert also played the full match in defence, while Jermaine Johnson kept his fitness up after being suspended from first team affairs of late.

Sean McAuley told the official SWFC site: ‘Our players showed good attitude and the experienced lads did their jobs on the night,’

‘Ronnie Wallwork and Burton O’Brien controlled the midfield, Steve Watson was comfortable at the back and we came through the game without any injuries so it was a positive workout all-round.’

Wednesday: Burch; McMenamin, Watson, Liversidge, Gilbert; R Lekaj, Wallwork, O’Brien, Esajas (T Wood 46); Johnson, Boden. Subs not used: Pratt, Hadfield, Harrison, Bowman.
