So, our team captain Richard Wood saw his transfer request turned down by Wednesday boss Brian Laws just days before the close of the transfer window – should he be stripped of the captaincy?

The Wakefield-born defender has been the subject of mass speculation in recent weeks, with Coventry City and Birmingham City both said to be interested in signing the Owls’ skipper.

And the speculation culminated in Woody asking for a transfer away from S6 last week, a request that was turned down by the Owls boss as he insists Wednesday’s best young players are staying put.

But should the centre-back keep the captaincy in light of the news, or should the armband be handed elsewhere?

That’s what we’re asking in this week’s Vital Sheffield Wednesday poll – and we want your views!

Woody has become somewhat of a cult hero at S6 – you know the type, a player that gives 100 per cent, that comes through the youth system at the club, that plays with his heart on his sleeve, and who pretty much is part of the furniture.

Year upon year Woody has made a centre-back spot at Hillsborough his own, although at the same time failing to attract any interest to step up to a higher level since starting out in professional football – he was the kind of player who seemed destined to stay in the blue and white shirt, for the time being at least.

But interest from other clubs in the Championship has seen him, for reasons unknown apart from him and Mr Laws, have seen him want out at S6.

The initial reaction from the Wednesday faithful, as expected, hasn’t been great, and it should be interesting to see the reaction at Hillsborough should Woody turn out in the blue and white for the Owls’ next game, at home to Watford on Saturday, September 13.

Of course, money talks, and he could well be playing in different colours come that weekend should he move away from S6 before the close of the transfer window.

But we want to know what you think – should he remain Wednesday team captain should be stay, or should it be handed to someone else?
