The weekend saw the launch of the new Wednesday home shirt – and it saw me rush down to the Owls Superstore like I was 12 again!

I’m 25 – and I must admit, although buying all our recent home and home strips through blind loyalty, I haven’t been a huge fan of any of our home shirts since the early 90’s.

The majority have been ‘okay’ for the team to wear, but they haven’t exactly got me dragging them from the drawers to wear them on a weekly basis – more for the gym and the odd match day – I’ve been more of a fan of the away strips.

But the newest addition got me down to the shop on launch day for the first time in over a decade.

The fact we’ve given the sponsorship to the Children’s Hospital Charity was a helping hand in my eagerness to buy the new shirt.

The offer of £25 for season ticket holders was also a plus point.

But the actual desire for me to buy a Wednesday shirt I actually like on launch day was there – and the complete package made it a day I have to say I was looking forward to.

I’d still to see the new strip in the ‘flesh’, but I arrived at the Superstore, tried on my size, and it fit as good as any football shirt I’ve ever bought – credit to Puma for that, and the club in getting Puma back on board.

It was also great to see the Superstore packed, and I arrived just short of lunchtime.

The only down point was that I had to queue for over an hour to purchase the shirt, but the till staff were all doing a grand job – a sign of good sales on the opening day.

Another welcome point was to see our chairman, Lee Strafford, in the shop with his new shirt proudly on, and chatting to fans waiting in the queue – who’d have thought we’d have seen that this time last year?

It certainly did make me look forward to the new season even more, and pull on that blue and white shirt with pride once more when we face Barnsley on the opening day of the season…
