The Break Will Benefit Us – Carvalhal

With Sheffield Wednesday continuing their Championship campaign this season in under two weeks time as we head to Bolton Wanders, Carlos Carvalhal has spoken of his belief that the October international break will be a benefit to the side.

Going into the break, it looked like Wednesday may go in with three defeats following losses to Sheffield United and Birmingham City, but a grand response against Leeds United sees the club go into the lull with a victory to draw the line.

Whilst many would want another game to get back on an unbeaten run at least, Carvalhal told the Official Site that with a few players out for the last match, he’ll take the break so we can focus on getting most of them fit again.

‘We had Keiren Westwood, Glenn Loovens, Sam Hutchinson, Almen Abdi, George Boyd and Fernando Forestieri out, so players with a big value. We didn`t want to talk about this before the Leeds match because I do not want excuses. In this moment, we have two weeks to work and we will give more time and tempo to Glenn and Sam.’

Carvalhal went on to say that whilst some players would naturally get a bit of time off and a lighter schedule for a couple of days, others who hadn’t got much game time would see the intensity of their training ramped up for a period to boost fitness before they were then given time to use the break for recovery as well.

‘We will give more time, tempo and intensity to the players that have not played often, that have a big value here like Daniel Pudil, Liam Palmer, Frederico Venancio and Lucas Joao for example. This will make the internal fight more strong because we need there to be a very good internal fight.’

He went on to add.

‘When you have this, you have two things that are much better. The intensity of the training is more high because all the players must fight to the position. And we have more options also on the bench to manage in the games. It is why I believe that after the international break, we will come back more strong because we will have recovered players. The break will be good to us.’
