The rumour mill turns, and Derby boss Paul Jewell added some fuel to the fire when talking about Owls loanee Michael Johnson.
Jewell brought Johnson back in to his threadbare squad for the cup tie against Wednesday, and five thousand travelling Owls fans clapped MJ on to the field when he replaced Tyrone Mears on 32 minutes. Post-match, Jewell said he wasn’t closing the door on a deal but would have to strengthen his squad first, cheekily suggesting a fee of £1.5 million for the veteran defender.
Let’s hope he had a smile on his face when he said that because he knows we don’t have that kind of money! Johnson is in limbo.. what is certain is the guy has a desire to play, and his attitude and application have been present for all to see during his time at S6.
Speaking of cheeky Owls ex-managers, it’s reported elsewhere on Vital and in the Daily Mirror that Paul Sturrock will offer 250k for Glenn Whelan.. our opinion is that that might be enough to buy Glenn’s left leg under normal circumstances, but hey, this is cash-strapped Sheffield Wednesday we’re talking about. Surely a derisory offer like that (if it has in fact been made) would be easy to turn down? Let’s hope so.
