Dominic Iorfa was blasted by supporters on social media after underperforming in Sheffield Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Luton Town. The 24-year-old was partnered by Tom Lees and Julian Borner at centre-back, but the trio struggled to contain Luton and were fortunate to concede only one goal on the night.
Iorfa made a number of defensive errors at Kenilworth Road and should take his share of the blame for the result. He was caught napping as Izzy Brown missed the target from six yards and played a short backpass to Cameron Dawson that Harry Cornick intercepted and laid on for James Collins to score.
What’s happened to Borner and Iorfa? #swfc 🤔😳🤷♂️

Iorfa & Borner, absolutely solid earlier in season. What’s happened? #swfc

Why do we suddenly look so bad at the back? Iorfa and Boerner looking very shaky ! #swfc

3 at the back is a disaster. Surely Monk has to change it. Borner and Iorfa just look totally uncomfortable #swfc

Against Luton, Iorfa played for 90 minutes, had 56 touches, won three aerial duels, had one shot, completed 80.6% of his 36 passes, made four tackles, gave away one foul, made three clearances and had one successful dribble.
The 24-year-old did a poor job of containing Luton’s attackers on Wednesday, so Garry Monk has a lot to ponder ahead of Saturday’s clash with Reading. Iorfa has been a regular this season, making 31 appearances in all competitions, but he’s not been at his best of late.
