Team News: Sheff Wed without four players ahead of Wigan clash, midfield duo could return

|

Sheffield Wednesday confirm they will be without four players ahead of Tuesday evening’s meeting with Wigan Athletic – Liam Palmer (ankle), Massimo Luongo (groin), Fernando Forestieri (fitness), Steven Fletcher (knee). The Owls could welcome back Kieran Lee (shoulder) and Sam Hutchinson (foot), however.

Palmer has returned to training following an ankle injury picked up in December. He’s nearing a comeback, but Wednesday’s clash with the Latics has come too soon. Luongo’s groin injury came out of nowhere last week and will now cause him to miss a second game despite not being serious.

Forestieri has recovered from a knee injury and has recently been back in training, but he’s short of match fitness after spending two months out of action. He’s playing in the u23s before Garry Monk considers a recall to the first-team.

Fletcher is still recovering from a knee injury and could be out until March. Lee could return for Wednesday after a shoulder injury. Monk was optimistic about his chances of featuring against Wigan. Hutchinson is nearing a return from a foot injury, but Monk said he will be assessed.
