Team News: £2.5m defender has ‘returned’, £360k midfielder ‘out’, £3.15m winger ‘available’

Sheffield Wednesday will be without Osaze Urhoghide (knee) and Kieran Lee (calf) against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon. The Owls say Tom Lees (hamstring), Jacob Murphy (back) and Connor Wickham (hamstring) should be available for selection, however.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Urhoghide hasn’t made Wednesday’s matchday squad since March. He’s still out with a knee injury and it’s unknown when he’ll return. Fortunately, Garry Monk has Liam Palmer and Moses Odubajo who can operate at right-back.

Lee has been ‘ruled out’ by the Owls as the £360k-rated midfielder has still not recovered from a calf problem that caused him to be left out of Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat to Preston North End.

Lees has recently ‘returned to training’ and should at least make the squad that travels to Loftus Road. Dominic Iorfa, Julian Borner and Palmer have operated at centre-back in recent weeks, but Monk may consider the £2.5m-rated defender after seeing his side concede eight goals in their last three games.

Murphy had a back complaint after the Preston defeat, but the £3.15m-rated winger should be ‘available’ for selection. With four goals and three assists in 2020, Monk will be desperate to start him.

Wickham had a minor hamstring issue from the fixture pile-up, causing him to miss the Preston game, but he should also feature against QPR. The Owls have only scored two goals in their last three outings, so they’ll need the 27-year-old leading the line.
