Owls boss Paul Sturrock will be able to add to his squad in the battle against relegation after chairman Dave Allen announced he would personally fund laon deals.

Sturrock has been desperate to add players to his squad for weeks, and the problem was emphasised on Saturday when Wednesday took just 11 senior first team players down to Southampton – a game they lost 3-0.

Allen told the official SWFC site: ”The debt is under control and we are not willing to extend it. However I have spoken to Paul Sturrock today and, if he needs to bring in a couple of players, I will foot the wage bill out of my own pocket.”

The Owls chairman had previously refused to fund any more deals after his feud with fans group Wednesdayite continued when they refused to hand over their shares in exchange for money which would be put into the club.

But now he seems willing to help the Wednesday cause after seeing the side slump to three successive defeats and find themselves just five points away from the relegation trapdoor.
