Owls boss Paul Sturrock has told BBC Radio Sheffield he’s in talks with a young Premiership striker about a loan move to Hillsborough.

Reports are currently pointing towards Reading’s young Irish striker Shane Long, who impressed for the Royals in the Championship last term. Long is currently down the pecking order at the Madjeski stadium behind Leroy Lita, Kevin Doyle and Dave Kitson.

The injury room at Hillsborough is already bursting at the seems, and Sturrock will add new signing Wade Small to his list of absentees after the former MK Dons winger was substituted just eleven minutes into his debut at Plymouth Argyle.

Wednesday are already without their full compliment of strikers. Steve Maclean was ruled out for around four weeks after picking up a knee injury against Burnley last week. Marcus Tudgay, Deon Burton, Drew Tablto and Barry Corr are also missing from the Owls attack.

And Chairman Dave Allen has boosted Sturrock’s transfer-kitty by revealing he will personally fund a deal to bring a striker on-loan to Hillsborough.
