A YOUNG Wednesday side went down to a 2-0 defeat against Stocksbridge Park Steels at the Look Local Stadium tonight.
With the senior side playing in the 2-1 friendly victory over Rotherham United last night, it was down to the club’s young guns to take on the Evo-Stik Premier League side.
Trialist Padraig Amond did get a start following his second half appearance in the clash at Don Valley against the Millers, whilst Mark Beevers and James O’Connor were also included in the squad.
It was a squad mainly made up of youth though and Steels took advantage to claim a pre-season scalp.
It was all square going into the 76th-minute before an own goal from Wednesday’s Ayo Obileye gave the hosts the lead and Mark Ward made it 2-0 late on from a set piece.
Wednesday squad: O’Donnell, Tumulty, Reynolds, O’Connor (Rowbottom 70), Beevers, Obileye, Santini (White 57), Nyoni, Oliver (Husbands 64) (HUs, Amond (Ayoola 46), Modest (Canham 46).Unused sub: Cuff.
