The rumour mill is most definitely in full swing – with Owls defender Tommy Spurr this time being linked with a summer move to local rivals Barnsley.

Spurr, who was a wanted man last year with both Q.P.R. and Nottingham Forest thought to be tracking him, but this time it’s nearer to home and Mark Robins’ Tykes the latest party to be linked with his services.

The Owls Academy product had a season to forget last season, with some poor performances as Wednesday suffered relegation to League One.

But that doesn’t seem to have stopped the Tykes showing interest in taking Spurr to Oakwell this summer, according to our sister site Vital Barnsley.

Wednesday are not in a position to turn down decent offers for their more valuable players, with Spurr arguably falling into that bracket despite a poor 2009-10 campaign in the blue and white stripes.

Leeds United have also been rumoured to be chasing the youngster following their promotion to the Championship.

And with Owls boss Alan Irvine targeting a return for Preston’s Eddie Nolan, who was on loan at S6 last season, for next season, Spurr could well fall down the pecking order.
