Some amongst the Sheffield Wednesday fanbase are getting in a little bit of a tizzy at the moment following England’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Croatia on Wednesday evening.

Having taken the lead through a Kieran Trippier freekick, England certainly had the chances to increase their lead and put the match beyond our opposition but with that all-important second goal eluding us, whatever the reason, Croatia got back into it, took charge and were eventually worthy of their win – albeit I have issues with how they went about it and the consistency of refereeing ability, or lack thereof, but that’s irrelevant for the history books.

Those in the fanbase with a greater grasp on the clubs’ history found a reason for delight in the final result though. They might admit themselves if questioned that it was a perverse delight, but given the season fans had in 2017/18 and the summer so far, who wouldn’t take what they can get at the moment.

I doubt unless something major happens before the close of the transfer window, that many will be going out and putting a little bet on it at this stage though.
