“Snap him up”, “Worth a look” – A lot of fans want Sheff Wed to sign Everton defender

With David Bates returning to Hamburg after his failed loan move, Sheffield Wednesday may need to sign another centre-back this summer. Garry Monk has Tom Lees, Dominic Iorfa and Julian Borner at his disposal, but Lees’ poor form is another reason why the Owls should bolster their backline.

Vital Sheff Wed suggested Everton’s Lewis Gibson as a potential option, as the 19-year-old will be loaned out to a higher-up club than Fleetwood Town (League One) next season. A lot of supporters from Sheffield Wednesday’s FB group are keen to see him signed.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Rob Stow: “He can’t be more of a waste of a squad place than Bates and Lees.”

Steve Clay: “Seems a sensible choice to me.”

Michael Jones: “Quality player and would start every game for me.”

Simon Andrew Haley: “Worth a look for me. Our club needs to go down the younger route if we are to be successful again, financially and on the pitch.”

Anthony Swfc Yeardley: “Could be one for the future.”

David Wilcock: “Snap him up.”

Paul Butcher: “Good player. With us cost-cutting on wages (Gibson) would be a good signing.”

Gibson joined Everton from Newcastle United in 2017 and has gone on to make 38 appearances for the U23s. He’s yet to make a first-team appearance for the Toffees, so he’s being loaned out to continue his development.

The 19-year-old has been given rave reviews by Fleetwood manager Joey Barton, so he could be an asset for Wednesday. Monk still has Iorfa, Borner and Lees too, so there’s enough experience in the backline for next season.

It remains to be seen whether the Owls will make a move for Gibson, but supporters are on board nevertheless.
