Buckingham Palace, that is.. consultant physio and Wednesday legend Alan Smith picks up an MBE from the Queen.

Alan’s eleven years at Hillsborough during the good times of 1983 to 1994 and sterling service for the England team (working under seven managers) led to the honour, and Smithy is well chuffed. He told the official site:

‘It’s a great honour to receive this invitation from the Queen and I am really looking forward to going down to Buckingham Palace with my wife, Judith. To be recognised by the Queen is not something that happens every day and I intend to enjoy every minute of the time we are at the Palace. It is a personal honour for me and reflects well on Sheffield Wednesday too.’

Lee Strafford commented: ‘We are really pleased that Alan Smith has been recognised in this way. He has been at the pinnacle of sports physiotherapy for many years and we are proud to have such a well-respected individual as a key figure at Sheffield Wednesday. I would like to congratulate Alan on behalf of the club. He has achieved a massive amount in the game since he started as Sheffield Wednesday physio in 1983 and we are delighted that his association with the club continues.’

Vital Sheffield Wednesday would like to add our congratulations. Good work, fella!
