Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has claimed that he wants to ‘finish his career’ at Hillsborough as doubts continue to linger about his long-term future with the club given his existing contract expires at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old Scottish international moved to Wednesday back in the summers transfer window back in 2015 from Crystal Palace and he’s quickly established himself as a key player for us in the heart of midfield and it’s fair to say he’s become a huge fan favourite with his efforts – even if his goal return could certainly improve given the quality of his left foot.

With 118 appearances following his free transfer capture from Selhurst Park, he does only have a year left on his deal and with the club looking to trim costs that has naturally led to speculation about his own future.

Speaking to the Star there was a big crumb of comfort in his words and fans want the club to get it sorted.

“I know I’ve got a year left on my contract but there is plenty of time to sort it out. I’ve made it clear I want to finish my career here if I can. I love it here. I’m just focused on doing what’s right for me and doing what’s right for the club. I want to play football and stay at this club.”
