Wednesday striker Leon Clarke could reignite his move to Southend United this summer, according to our sister site Vital Southend.

The former Wolves hitman had enjoyed a productive loan spell at Roots Hall last season and was seemingly set for a full transfer to Southend in the January transfer window before the move collapsed.

But now, according to Vital Southend, the move could well be back on this summer with Clarke deemed surplus to requirements at S6.

A close pal of Leon told Vital Southend: ‘Leon has called Steve Tilson and cleared the air. He now realises that he was badly advised last year and wants to prove himself to the Southend fans, who took him to their hearts.’

Clarke earned himself cult status at Wednesday at the end of the season after bagging the crucial third goal in the 3-1 win at Leicester City, before also netting in the final match of the season against Norwich City.

But despite his late goals in the famous blue and white stripes, Clarke could well be on his way out of S6 to free up some of the wage budget to allow Owls’ boss Brian Laws to bring in new players to his squad.
