Owls skipper Lee Bullen is out of contract this summer – and we’re asking Vital Sheffield Wednesday users whether you’d offer him a new deal in this week’s poll.

The Scottish jack-of-all-trades has become somewhat of a cult hero at Hillsborough after helping guide the Owls to promotion from League One in his first season with the club before going on to play in all eleven positions during his time here.

But Bullen’s stay at S6 could come to an end this summer – with Owls boss Brian Laws looking to make sweeping changes to his playing squad as he looks to take the team one-step further and push for the play-offs next term.

And the 36-year-old could be one of the players to get the chop, although he has revealed he’s hopeful of getting another year added to his contract following some fine performances at the back this term.

He said: ‘I’m out of contract in the summer. I’m on a year-to-year deal anyway at my age and I’m waiting to hear. I had a brief chat with the manager on Friday and he is hoping to have a meeting this week with the chairman.’

The former Dunfermline man may not be getting any younger but he seems to have won the praise from his manager after forging a strong partnership at the back with Richard Wood, and allowing last season’s player-of-the-year Graham Coughlan go out on loan.

Bullen’s leadership skills off the pitch could also prove an advantage in contract discussions, with Laws keen to get a good team spirit going at the club – something of which the defender is central at present.

So what do you think? Should Bully be given a contract extension at Hillsborough or has he served his time in the blue and white shirt well and it’s time for him to move on for the club to progress on the pitch?
