Morgan Fox could return for Sheffield Wednesday ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Barnsley after Garry Monk admitted that he’s “very close” in his recovery.

The 26-year-old picked up an injury in Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic (January 28) and missed their 0-0 draw with Millwall (February 1), but he could be back in time to face the Tykes.

Monk told Alex Miller of the Sheffield Star: “He’s very, very close. He’s been out on the pitches today and seems alright so we’ll make a decision on that (on Friday). We’ve got another training, so we’ll see if (he’s) available.”

Fox has made 26 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating four goals. The left-back wasn’t a regular at the start of the campaign, featuring in only four of Wednesday’s first 11 Championship outings, but he’s missed just one game from the 19 that followed.

The Wednesday manager chose Moses Odubajo to replace Fox against Millwall and is likely to plump for the 26-year-old again on Saturday if his first-choice defender isn’t passed fit in time.

Fox has been in fine form of late but could be on his way out in the coming months as his contract expires in July. Wednesday are expected to agree a new deal soon, but there’s been no official confirmation yet.
