Peterborough United’s chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed that Sheffield Wednesday do have more than a passing interest in Jack Baldwin.

In an interview with Peterborough’s media team – Click Here – MacAnthony discussed the 25-year-old defender who has been subject to plenty of speculation this summer and he has been placed on the transfer list.

Sunderland are credited in the media with an interest, as are we, but as yet neither have met the asking price placed on his head by the League One club.

Their Chairman explained.

“We had Sunderland come in and want to pay next to nothing for him, obviously we turned that down. Sheffield Wednesday called us, he was high on their manager’s list, but we turned that down as well. There’s no immediate rush to get Jack out the door.”

Baldwin came through Hartlepool United’s youth academy and having made his debut for them, he went on to make 85 appearances in total with the vast majority of his showings being starting appearances. In January 2014 he moved onto Peterborough for a reported £500,000 and in his years with them so far, he has made 118 appearances across all competitions.

In 2017/18 he made 43 appearances across the campaign and also chipped in with three goals.

We’ll have to see if we go back with an increased offer that better fits what Peterborough are looking for, but for Sheffield Wednesday fans at least it shows some signs of us working behind the scenes given how quiet the summer has been on a transfer front and given the focus has been on getting players out of the door, rather than in.
