Sheffield Wednesday will be without Massimo Luongo against Reading on Saturday as he “has a bit of soreness in his calf”, according to Garry Monk. He told Wednesday’s official website: “Massimo has a bit of soreness in his calf so is unlikely for the weekend but the rest are fine.”

The 27-year-old hasn’t played for a month due to suspension and injury, causing him to miss Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic (January 28), 0-0 draw with Millwall (February 1), 1-1 draw with Barnsley (February 8) and  1-0 defeat to Luton Town (February 12).

Luongo has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals. His last outing came in the Owls’ 5-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers (January 18) and saw him sent off after just 27 minutes. In his absence, Monk has called upon Kieran Lee, Barry Bannan and Josh Windass in midfield.

Joey Pelupessy was dropped from the starting lineup due to poor form while Sam Hutchinson is likely to remain frozen out of the first-team.

Wednesday are in bad shape ahead of their meeting with Reading, having gone five games without a win in the Championship. The Owls have fallen to 11th in the table and find themselves nine points adrift of the playoffs.
