Sheffield Wednesday could be without Fernando Forestieri against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The 29-year-old has been out of action in December with an ankle injury and ‘will need to prove his fitness’ before Garry Monk considers him for selection, reports BBC Sport.

How will Sheffield Wednesday fare against Nottingham Forest?

Wednesday aren’t short of options in attack with Steven Fletcher, Atdhe Nuhiu and Jordan Rhodes to choose from, but Forestieri would be a welcome face in the matchday squad. As per Transfermarkt, the Italian forward has contributed 56 goals in 125 games since joining the Owls from Watford in 2015.

Since injuring his ankle in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic (November 30), Forestieri has missed Wednesday’s last two Championship outings – 2-1 win over Brentford (December 7), 1-1 draw with Derby County (December 11).

The 29-year-old doesn’t need to be risked if he isn’t 100% this weekend, as Monk has three centre-forwards at his disposal. Wednesday are in fine form too, boasting two wins and two draws from their last four. The Owls are currently 8th in the Championship with 33 points from 21 games and could move into the top-six with a win over Forest.
