There’s uncertainty over Tom Lees’ availability ahead of Sunday afternoon’s meeting with Swansea City, reports Yorkshire Live. The £2.5m-rated defender previously told Garry Monk that he felt a problem with his hamstring in Sheffield Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion, but Monk doesn’t appear to believe him and made it known in his pre-match press conference that the scan came back all clear.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Monk explained: “When we did the preparations for the WBA game on Tuesday, he was starting and then two minutes into it he said he felt something in his hamstring. We scanned him straight away and there was nothing on the scan at all and that came back clear.

“We will just be dictated by Tom and how he feels. Tom will decide when he feels he can come back in. Clinically, there is nothing wrong on that scan. We will see him this morning if he is able to train. There is nothing clinical to rule him out from training or playing. Obviously, he has feeling in his hamstring and we will be dictated by how he feels.

Lees was a regular for Wednesday and captained the side prior to lockdown, but he’s since been dropped for Liam Palmer. The 29-year-old’s future at Hillsborough is up in the air too, as he’s struggled for form and might benefit from a change of scenery.

Wednesday are looking to trim their wage bill and replacing their ageing players with young and hungry alternatives, so a centre-back earning £1.3m-a-year/£25k-a-week who has been short of form in 2020 could be moved on. Liam Palmer has impressed in a makeshift central role, but Wednesday will have to scour the transfer market for a new face if Lees doesn’t have a future.

And with the Owls not having much of a budget for recruitments, free transfers and loans may be all they target.
