Wednesday may be out of form, but Saturday’s opponents Southampton could make two unwanted records when the sides meet at Hillsborough in League One this weekend.

Both of the former Premier League sides have struggled with life in the third tier of English football this season.

But although Wednesday have lost three games on the spin, Southampton travel to South Yorkshire with two unwanted records ready to be broken at Hillsborough.

The Saints have never gone six consecutive games without a goal in their entire 125 year history.

But if they fail to find the onion bag on Saturday they will smash that record – and the record for the number of minutes without a goal.

It’s been a downward slope for the St Mary’s club since the departure of Alan Pardew earlier this season – Pardew’s final game ironically saw the Saints smash Bristol Rovers 4-0 away from home.

And they’ll be going all out to avoid having their names in the history books for all the wrong reasons this weekend.
