Roy Keen On Wood?

The Daily Mirror reports that Richard Wood is on his way to Ipswich, for a fee in the region of £800k.

Roy Keane, in the market for re-inforcements following the Tractor Boys shaky start to the season, could be turning to the Owls’ longest serving player in a bid to bolster a defence that has leaked eight goals in five games.

There has been interest in Wood since he handed in a transfer request almost a year ago: Coventry, Crystal Palace and our neighbours across town all reputed to be in the running to sign him, but Ipswich now appear to be in the hunt, after allegedly missing out on the signing of Celtic’s Irish U21 defensive prospect Darren O’Dea.

Wood has played 157 league games for Wednesday since making his debut in 2003, but with less than a year to go on his current extended contract, gaffer Brian Laws may well be tempted to cash in now rather than let Wood go for free next summer.

Further news when we have it on what could be an eventful transfer deadline day!
