With Sheffield Wednesday taking a narrow victory over Luton Town in the third round of the FA Cup on Tuesday evening, our reward is a clash with Premier League side Chelsea.

The match could’ve seen a reunion for versatile loanee Michael Hector with his parent club, but owing to a Football Association rule, Chelsea have no discretion to actually grant him permission to face them when the fourth round game comes around in the fixture list.

Rule (j) (iv) of the competition stipulates:

‘The Association will not give permission for players on loan or work experience to play against the lending club.’

With the 26-year-old becoming a key player for us in the backline and also midfield at points, he now has 19 starting appearances to his name since he arrived at the end of August, and with a solitary substitute showing on top, the Jamaican international has also returned one goal – the winner over Preston North End back in mid-December.

It’ll undoubtedly be a blow to our plans given his performances, but the club would’ve been aware of this possibility in any event.
