Return of the Mac

The Owls go into tomorrow’s fixture with Plymouth wary of what an old boy can do to them.

Steve MacLean was a cult hero at Hillsborough after he fired 20, including the equalising penalty in the Cardiff play-off win over Hartlepool.

After a spell on loan at Aberdeen last season, the Scot is back at Plymouth with a point to prove.

He’ll always be considered the cool finishing, mild mannered, walks with the Racing Post under his arm hero to Wednesday fans but only 5 goals in 47 appearances for the Pilgrims hasn’t convinced their fans.

Nor has new manager, Peter Reid, who has only used him sparingly this season.

If any of the Hillsborough faithful did need reminding about MacLean’s deadliness, then think back to 2008, where he hit the winner for…Argyle.
