According to Alex Miller of the Sheffield Star, Fernando Forestieri could leave Sheffield Wednesday in January. The 30-year-old has spent most of the season on the periphery and is out of contract in July, so Wednesday might look to cash in on his signature before he becomes a free transfer.

Miller hosted a Q & A and was asked by a supporter whether the Italian would have been sold this month if he was fully fit. He replied: “The evidence suggests that the Owls boss doesn’t quite seem to fancy Forestieri and you have to think that for a player on his wages, with his contract up in the summer, any bid would be considered.”

Forestieri has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating two goals. His last outing came in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic (November 30, 2019). The out-of-favour striker has missed 11 games through injury but is nearing a return after taking part in training last week. Whether he makes the matchday squad remains to be seen, however.

The 30-year-old has Jordan Rhodes, Sam Winnall and Atdhe Nuhiu for competition, so he’s unlikely to get many minutes during the second half of the season. if Wednesday were to receive a bid for Forestieri this month, they may not stand in his way if he wanted to leave.
