According to Yorkshire Live, Sheffield Wednesday are ‘desperate’ to extend Morgan Fox’s contract, but there hasn’t been any progress made for months.

Garry Monk said in January that he was hopeful of tying down the 26-year-old to a new deal as reward for his fine form, but Fox’s contract is still set to expire this summer.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Vital Wednesday previously pondered whether the hold-up came from Fox’s disillusion from Wednesday’s poor form in 2020 or due to interest from suitors.

The Owls have been in freefall since the turn of the year and Fox has been linked with West Bromwich Albion, Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Huddersfield Town in December 2019.

But with seven other players soon to be out of contract (Kieran Lee, Joey Pelupessy, Sam Hutchinson, Sam Winnall, Atdhe Nuhiu, Fernando Forestieri, Steven Fletcher), it seems Wednesday are just being slow.

Fox has made 102 appearances in all competitions since joining the Owls from Charlton Athletic in 2017, scoring four goals and making six assists. The 26-year-old looked finished at Hillsborough after spending the first two months of last season on the bench, but he’s turned his career around and is now a regular at left-back.

As per WhoScored, Fox has made 25 league appearances this season, scoring two goals, making one assist, creating 19 chances, completing 71.8% of his 699 passes and whipping in 78 crosses with 23% accuracy.

He’s won 47 aerial duels (51%), made three successful dribbles (37.5%), had 16 shots with 12.5% accuracy, blocked 37 shots/passes/crosses, made 55 clearances, gave away 24 fouls and averaged a tackle (55) or interception (35) every 23 minutes.

Fox is a key player under Monk and should soon be tied down for the long-term.
