Report: Sheff Wed suffer blow in pursuit of 30 y/o, up to 10 clubs in race for his signature

|

Sheffield Wednesday have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Lyle Taylor, with TEAMtalk revealing that up to ten clubs are in the race for his signature – Bristol City, Burnley, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth, Stoke, Preston and Middlesbrough.

Wednesday could lose five strikers this summer, with Steven Fletcher, Fernando Forestieri, Atdhe Nuhiu, Sam Winnall and Fraser Preston out of contract in the coming months, but they may struggle to bring in Taylor as a replacement.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

The 30-year-old has made 67 appearances in all competitions for Charlton Athletic since joining on a free transfer from AFC Wimbledon in 2018, scoring 36 goals and making 14 assists. Taylor is out of contract at The Valley this summer and manager Lee Bowyer is resigned to losing him.

Wednesday could be losing their top scorer in Fletcher, as he’s made little progress in putting pen to paper on an extension, but the Owls aren’t blessed with funds to bring in a top-quality striker in his stead. Taylor being a free transfer is half the battle, but Wednesday may be muscled out when it comes to agreeing personal terms. Time will tell.
