According to Dom Howson of Yorkshire Live, Atdhe Nuhi is still ‘keen to stay’ at Sheffield Wednesday despite the likelihood he’ll be released this summer. The 30-year-old is out of contract in the coming months and has underperformed under Garry Monk, so it’s hard to see his deal being renewed for another season.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Howson said: “Nuhiu is keen to stay. If he was offered a new contract, I would be surprised if Nuhiu didn’t stay put. However, has he done enough to warrant a new deal? Not for me. He has scored one league goal since November. Fletcher has stepped up this season but the other strikers have disappointed.”

The Kosovo international has made 269 appearances in all competitions for Wednesday since joining from Rapid Vienna in 2013, scoring 47 goals and making 26 assists. He’s had a poor goal output over the last two seasons, however, scoring just four league goals in 2018/19 and three in 2019/20.

And with Wednesday paying Nuhiu £13k-per-week/£0.68m-a-year in wages, they’re better off letting his deal run down and reinvesting the money. Monk could find himself short on strikers next season because Steven Fletcher, Sam Winnall, Fernando Forestieri and Fraser Preston are all out of contract in the coming months, but Nuhiu hasn’t done enough to warrant keeping regardless.
