Fernando Forestieri could be on his way out of Sheffield Wednesday this summer as his contract is up in the coming months and he hasn’t been handed an extension. When fit, the 30-year-old was a bright spark in a season of disappointment for Wednesday, but his low goal output and paltry number of appearances have been a problem.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Morgan Fox and Steven Fletcher have been handed deals and are expected to stay at Hillsborough this summer, but Dom Howson of Yorkshire Live was asked if any others had offers on the table and said: “Not as far as I am aware. I think the main focus is understandably on tying down Fox and Fletcher at the moment.

“Dawson’s future was sorted out in January so I think the club will be delighted if they can get Fox and Fletcher to sign on the dotted line in the next month or so. It will be interesting to see what Monk does up front. If he decides not to renew the contracts of Forestieri, Winnall and Nuhiu, it will leave him short of options up front.”

Forestieri joined the Owls from Watford in 2015 and has gone on to make 134 appearances in all competitions, scoring 40 goals and making 18 assists. The last two seasons have been a disaster for the 30-year-old, however, as he’s missed 36 league games through injury or suspension and only has two goals to his name in the previous 11 months.

The Italian striker earns £1.3m-a-year at Wednesday, but the club aren’t getting value for money. They’d no doubt prefer to cash in rather than losing a valuable asset for nothing this summer, but it appears Dejphon Chansiri will have to cut his losses instead.
