Reading boss Steve Coppell is set to bolster his squad by launching a £3m bid for highly-rated Owls defender Madjid Bougherra, according to reports today.

Bougherra has been hotly tipped for a move away from Hillsborough during the January transfer window, with Charlton Athletic already having a £1.3m bid rejected earlier this week.

And the £3m offer for the Algerian international could prove too much for Wednesday to resist, with the defender already seeming unsettled with the news over a move to the top-flight.

‘All players want to play in the Premiership – it’s [every] player’s dream. I want to play [there] as quickly as possible – whether it’s with Sheffield Wednesday or another club I don’t know.’ he told the official owls site.

Wednesday would see a huge profit made for the deal, after signing the 24-year-old for £200,000 from French club FC Gueugnon in the summer – and Owls boss Brian Laws could well use the money to strengthen in other areas.
