Wednesday have had a bid for former loan star Michail Antonio rejected by Premier League-bound Reading, according to reports.

The Reading Post has reported that the Royals have knocked back an initial offer of £350,000 for the wing wizard, who played a major role in helping Wednesday to automatic promotion to the Championship.

Manager Dave Jones is keen to bring Antonio to Hillsborough on a permanent deal this summer but Wednesday will have to up their bid for the 22-year-old, with the Royals reportedly wanting double the money.

The player is unlikely to get a look-in at the Madejski Stadium next season. He was only a bit-part player for the club in the Championship and Reading’s promotion to the Premier League, coupled with the signing of Gareth McClearly, will see him fall further down the pecking order.

It’s up to Owls chairman Milan Mandaric to up the offer if Wednesday want to get their man. Antonio scored five goals in 14 appearances for the Owls, one of which came in the crucial 2-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers on the final day of the season that clinched Wednesday’s promotion.
