Wednesday could be weighing-up a move for former loan star Nile Ranger from Newcastle United this summer.

The 21-year-old spent the end of last season helping the Owls gain promotion to the Championship on a loan spell from Newcastle, scoring twice in eight appearances.

His future on Tyneside is seemingly at an end, with Alan Pardew keen to off-load the striker elsewhere despite him having four years to run on a five-year deal at the Premier League club.

And The Journal is reporting that Wednesday have made an approach for his services, although Owls boss Dave Jones is still deciding whether to strike a season-long loan deal or take him on a permanent basis.

Wednesday’s Championship rivals Barnsley are also thought to be interested in Ranger, who’s also spent some time on-loan at Oakwell.

United put an asking price of £1m on Ranger last summer but he rejected a move to Blackpool. Now the Toon may have to lower that price if they’re to see the young striker move on to pastures new, with a fee of £500,000 plus add-ons being rumoured.
