Wednesday could take a huge step towards Championship safety on Saturday if they pick up three points against Ipswich Town.

The Owls sit three points above the relegation zone with three games remaining, inclusive of the visit of the Tractor Boys, and could potentially move six points clear of the bottom three this weekend.

Mick McCarthy’s Town side could still do with a couple of points of their own to ensure their safety but an impressive midweek win over Crystal Palace eased their drop fears.

For either team, victory at Hillsborough on Saturday could make the final two matches of the season a lot more comfortable than they’re currently looking.

Vital Quotes:

Owls defender Miguel Llera told the official SWFC website:

“We are looking to secure our place in Championship in the next game and everyone thinks that if we win that it will be over but it may be that it takes longer.

“We are looking at Saturday`s game as a cup final because it`s vital for us to get that win in front of our own fans and that is what we are working for now.

“It`s been a very strange season because of how close the teams are in the table and the number of points teams in the bottom half of the table have – it`s definitely not a normal situation that we are in but we are living with that situation the best we can.”

Wednesday Team News:

Wednesday boss Dave Jones could make changes to the side that drew 0-0 at Blackpool in midweek.

Full-back Reda Johnson missed the trip to the seaside with a foot injury and Jones will give Johnson until the last minute to prove his fitness.

Late fitness tests will also be handed to Gary Madine, who’s been sidelined with a hamstring injury, and midfielder Seyi Olofinjana, who’s missed Wednesday’s last two games with a knee problem.

Striker Leroy Lita could also return to the starting eleven after dropping to the bench at Blackpool.

Player to watch: Jermaine Johnson

The Jamaican hauled Wednesday through their last home match against Blackburn Rovers with a brace of goals in a 3-2 victory, and also netted at Leeds United last weekend.

Ipswich Town Team News:

Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy could have options to tinker with his squad this weekend but may well be tempted to stick with the same starting eleven that eased by Crystal Palace 3-0 in midweek.

Jay Tabb is set to be fit and available for a return to action from a knee injury and will be hoping to feature.

But Lee Martin and Aaron McLean are doubts through ankle and toe injuries respectively as Town target another victory that would surely secure their safety.

Player to watch: Frank Nouble

Nouble scored a brace in Ipswich’s convincing 3-0 victory at home over Crystal Palace on Tuesday night and he’ll look to continue his good form in front of goal at Hillsborough.
