Wednesday turn their attentions to Carling Cup action tonight when Blackpool provide the first round opposition at Hillsborough.

Fans can expect changes from both sides, especially Wednesday who face a long trip down to Bournemouth just 48 hours after tonight’s clash.

Owls boss Gary Megson wasn’t too pleased with the early-season fixture congestion, but with £100,000 on offer from Sky to move the fixture, it was a no brainer as far as chairman Milan Mandaric was concerned.

Both sides got their respective campaigns off to winning starts though and will no doubt want to continue the winning momentum tonight.

Vital Quotes:

Owls boss Gary Megson told the Sheffield Star:

‘This game is an opportunity for players who might have been a bit miffed that they didn`t play last Saturday to show what they can do on a national stage.’

He added: ‘For the first game the team was named and there will be people who won`t have been happy. This is a chance for them to show what they can do.’

Wednesday Team News:

Wednesday could give a debut to new signing Daniel Uchechi.

The Nigerian only signed for the Owls today after a successful trial at S6 but could be thrown straight into the first team for the visit of the Seasiders.

Owls boss Gary Megson has promised changes to his starting eleven with one eye firmly on Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth in the league.

It could mean fringe players such as Daniel Jones, James O’Connor and Jon Otsemobor all get a run out.

Chris O’Grady was also welcomed to S6 as a new addition this week but the former Rochdale man is unlikely to make his debut in the blue and white stripes tonight.

Player to watch: Daniel Uchechi

The 21-year-old only signed on-loan today but Owls boss Gary Megson could well give the striker his debut tonight. Wednesday have been desperately trying to bolster their attacking options and Wednesdayites will look on with interest at the latest addition to the squad.

Blackpool Team News:

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway is also set to ring the changes, despite his side playing on Sunday this weekend rather than Saturday.

Goalkeeper Matt Gilks will be out of action for the Seasiders. Gilks was expected to be away for international duty anyway, but has picked up an ankle knock and will be sidelined through injury.

Craig Cathcart and Stephen Crainey have both been away on international duty, meaning the duo will also be absent, although Neal Eardley could feature after being an unsude substitute for Wales.

There could also be run-outs for Gerardo Bruna and Tom Ince.

Player to watch: Kevin Phillips

If the former Sunderland and West Brom striker gets the nod to start tonight he’ll be licking his lips to play against a side he has a great goalscoring record against.
