Prediction: Sheff Wed midfielder could return to face Luton, Monk may name him on the bench

|

Massimo Luongo could return from injury in time to face Luton Town on Wednesday. The 27-year-old resumed training last week and was given a 50/50 chance of featuring in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Barnsley. He failed to make the matchday squad as he wasn’t 100%, but Luongo should be ready for Wednesday’s midweek clash.

Joey Pelupessy could lose his place in midfield after a poor performance on the weekend and may be replaced by Kieran Lee. And with Monk forced to turn to Alex Hunt as backup, Wednesday will welcome Luongo’s return. The Australian international will provide much-needed experience and could be a game-changer from the bench.

Wednesday have picked up only five points from their last eight league games, falling to 11th in the table. The Owls stopped their losing run with consecutive draws against Millwall and Barnsley, but they desperately need a win to avoid losing more ground on the playoffs – Monk’s men are currently six points adrift.

Ahead of Wednesday’s clash, Luton are bottom of the Championship and have lost nine of their last 11 games.
