Garry Monk could rotate one or two players ahead of Sheffield Wednesday’s meeting with Charlton Athletic to avoid fatigue after the Owls’ 3-3 draw with Birmingham City on Saturday.

One player who may return to the starting lineup is Morgan Fox. The 26-year-old has recovered from an ankle injury that he picked up in Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic (January 28) and played for 45 minutes against Birmingham.

Monk has admitted Fox isn’t 100% fit, but he didn’t rule out the possibility of the left-back starting on Wednesday. He told Chris Holt of the Sheffield Star: “Foxy (is) not fully fit at all. The way we are with the couple of injuries we have had, where we are at and what we need to do, we have been forced into that situation.

“If we were in a better position in terms of the results we have had recently you would be able to give (him) a little bit longer. (He’s) not fully fit but it’s needs must.”

Should Fox be given the nod, Liam Palmer would likely be moved to right-back and Joey Pelupessy dropped. Monk named Pelupessy as a makeshift right wing-back against Birmingham before bringing him off at half-time – supporters slated the 26-year-old’s performance at St Andrew’s too.

If there were better options available, Fox would be given more time to recover, but he’s been fast-tracked back to provide much-needed defensive cover. The Englishman will have two extra days training under his belt ahead of the Charlton clash so he’ll be better prepared than he was against Birmingham.
