Wednesday will face competition for the signature of highly-rated Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder Danny Green, with Peterborough United joining the race for his services.

Owls boss Gary Megson is keen to bring the 22-year-old to Hillsborough this summer and it’s understood Wednesday had a bid rejected by the Daggers at the end of last week.

The Owls are expected to swoop with a second, improved, bid for the talented winger but will have to mount an attractive package if they’re to get the former Bishop’s Stortford man.

Peterborough United, promoted to the npower Championship, have also made a bid for Green, according to Skysports.com.

The lure of Championship football is something Wednesday can’t offer for next season, but at least with Milan Mandaric now at the helm they can compete with the wage demands, and a transfer fee.

Green is expected to leave the Daggers this summer and Wednesday know his qualities all too well – he scored from the spot when the Daggers held the Owls to a 1-1 draw last season.

He could attract bids from elsewhere, with his performances last season catching the attention of a number of clubs on top of Wednesday and Posh.
