Preston North End striker Jon Parkin has snubbed a move to Wednesday to join Championship promotion hopefuls Cardiff City, according to reports.

Parkin has agreed to join the Bluebirds on a two-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee after North End and Cardiff agreed terms over the deal.

But, according to a report in the Sheffield Telegraph, the Owls had also agreed a deal with boss Alan Irvine’s former club for the powerful striker – only for Parkin to opt for a move to Wales instead.

The 29-year-old had been linked with a move to Hillsborough ever since Irvine took over from Brian Laws at S6.

And, now with money to spend in the January transfer window thanks to new owner Milan Mandaric, Irvine was hoping to get his man.

But he’ll have to turn his attentions elsewhere after Parkin’s decision to join Cardiff.
