Steven Fletcher was praised by supporters after scoring Sheffield Wednesday’s winning goal in their 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic, but he wasn’t the only striker to make a positive impact at Hillsborough. Fernando Forestieri also impressed on Wednesday night and was applauded for his performance.
The 30-year-old saw a lot of the ball, had more shots than any player on the pitch, seldom relinquished possession, whipped in numerous crosses for his teammates and created a couple of scoring opportunities. He worked hard off the ball too, turning over possession five times in the game, so his praise from fans was deserved.
Can tell Forestieri needs a new contract. Been brilliant today other than final finish. #swfc

forestieri looked a lot more lively tonight, the whole team seemed to have masses more confidence not sure how people are slagging that performance off to be honest #swfc

Forestieri looking better and better the more game time he’s getting. Lacked that final finish tonight but all in all he’s getting that spark back.
Strange decision take him off 🤨 #Swfc— Ricky License (@RickyALswfc) February 26, 2020
Great to see Fletch back scoring.
Love that Forestieri is finally getting some much needed consecutive game time & looking as menacing & threatening as he can be.
And he's got his critics but can we all just appreciate that Tom Lees block on Lyle Taylor at 0-0… Massive!#SWFC— Added On Time (@added_on_time) February 26, 2020
Big praise for Fernando Forestieri following his performance last night. Very, very impressed by his effort, character and application. All that lacked from his performance was a goal. That was more like the Forestieri of old. Long may it continue. #SWFC

Getting better each game and definitely MOM last night. I'd happily give him a new contract.

Fernando Forestieri had almost double the amount of shots (11) as the entire Charlton team tonight (6) for Sheffield Wednesday…
He also made two key passes, three accurate crosses and ended with a pass completion rate of 86.8%.

Against Charlton, Forestieri played for 78 minutes, had 71 touches, won two aerial duels, created two chances, had 11 shots with 27% accuracy, completed 86.8% of his 38 passes, whipped in 11 crosses with 27% accuracy, made three tackles, gave away five fouls, picked up one booking, drew one foul and had one successful dribble.
The Italian forward has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating four goals. Forestieri missed three months of the season due to injury but has impressed upon his return.
