Highly-rated Wednesday youngster Mark Beevers has signed his first professional contract with the club after recently turning 18.

The Barnsley-born youngster was tipped as being the ‘pick of the bunch’ by former Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock and is set for a big future in the famous blue and white stripes after putting pen to paper on a three-year deal.

Beevers told the Stellar Group website: ‘I am really enjoying my football at Sheffield Wednesday and it’s great to know the club have faith in me.

‘I know that I have still got a long way to go but I am learning all the time and hopefully if I can perform on a regular basis for the reserves, a first team call-up won’t be too far away.’

The 18-year-old joined the club at 13 years of age before progressing to make appearances for the under 18’s side and reserve side at the end of last season – and he will be hoping to hold down his place in the team this season as he continues to impress the Owls coaches.
