Wednesday have promoted hot prospect Cecil Nyoni to their senior squad after progressing rapidly through the club’s Academy ranks.

The 19-year-old is one of the club’s brightest prospects, and has already been tipped for the senior team by Vital writer Ashley Ball.

Owls boss Alan Irvine handed Nyoni, who can play in central defender or midfield, the number 35 shirt before Wednesday’s npower League One clash against Rochdale at the weekend.

And Academy boss Sean McAuley is confident the Zimbabwe-born player can make an impact in the senior squad.

He told the official SWFC website: ‘The development that he can get from being involved with the seniors will far outweight anything that we can give him.

‘Like I have said before, we have a manager and staff who understand the process so making that transition and just having him involved with the squad will be a huge benefit.’

Nyoni joined the Owls after impressing with local side Middlewood Rovers.
