Owls’ Triple Header Is Vital

Wednesday face a vital part of their Championship season over the next three weeks with three very winnable home matches on the spin.

Wednesday host Blackpool on Tuesday night before a home clash against Doncaster Rovers awaits seven days later and then Ipswich Town visit S6 on Saturday, February 20.

The triple header will be crucial for Wednesday’s survival hopes.

All three are winnable, and Wednesday should be looking for at least two wins from those three matches to help maintain their place in the Championship.

And why not nine points from nine?

Wednesday have already defeated Blackpool not too long ago, Ipswich are one side that are in and around us at the bottom, and Doncaster are out-of-form.

Irvine has led Wednesday to victories in all his home matches in charge to date, and he’ll be looking for more of the same in February.

As daft as it sounds, a rich vein of form over this period could see the Owls as close to the play-off spots as the relegation zone.

That’s not being too optimistic, it’s just a sign of how close this league is this season, and the more clubs that are involved from out point of view, the better.

The defeat at Forest was, although disappointing, expected given Forest’s superb form this season, especially at home.

Victory against Blackpool was the key one as far as Irvine will be concerned, and that defeat at the City Ground can be put firmly to bed with three points against Ian Holloway’s side tomorrow night.

It’d be nice to go into the final game of February, away at relegation rivals Reading, with some space between ourselves and the bottom three.

It’s a big fortnight for Wednesday, there’s no doubt about it, and a fortnight which could well define our season.

COME ON WEDNESDAY!
