The transfer embargo slapped on the Owls, in light of a winding-up petition for unpaid taxes, has today been lifted by the Football League.

The ban had been put on Wednesday following the news that the club owed around £550,000 in unpaid taxes to HMRC.

But Wednesday have day confirmed that they’ve reached agreement with HMRC with regards to the payment, and the ban has since been lifted by the Football League.

It’s meant Nicky Weaver has been able to be unveiled as the Owls’ new number one today, possibly the worst kept secret of the summer after the former Manchester City man had been training with the club over the last few weeks.

A good news day, at last, for Wednesday before Saturday’s season opener.
